In the nursing profession, the work environment of practicing for a long time has been cited as one of the demanding as compared to all other types of work setting. However, nurses provide care to the patients in hospitals, ambulatory sites, nursing homes and other health care sites (Bulman, & Schutz, 2013). As a nurse, my objective and goal is to put the health and safety of the patient first. I focus on the quality of care I provide to the patients, as well as their safety. Not just physically but mentally as well. I am the advocate for my patients so I must keep an open mind and not be bias to my own personal beliefs. I am currently not in the work field but when I was last I was in the ER and treated all ages, races, and religions. Since nursing is an honorable profession, people should not treat it as a job of earning a salary but a way of life. My mission is geared to providing nonjudgmental care to the needy regardless of their spiritual beliefs, race, lifestyle choices, their disability, and financial status (Butts & Rich, 2018).
My philosophy as a nurse is that it is my responsibility to provide holistic, safe, and patient-centered care. However, my personal beliefs and core values are honesty, persistence, kindness, security, and long-life learning in achieving my goals. I use these ideas in my decision making in my personal and work life. In my opinion, the basis of nursing is knowledge, caring, and integrity. In my career of nursing, I focus on patient empowerment, safety, and healing (Grace, 2017). I believe that my personality and professional philosophies are compatible since my values overlay with my driving forces behind the foundations of nursing. As a nurse, I improve my image of nursing profession through observing everyday work ethics and at the same time getting involved in political, community, and nursing organizations. Through such forums, I could improve the standards of healthcare locally and globally.
