a) The government concealed information about Pentagon Papers because of lying to the public about the events of the Vietnam War that would cause an uproar. For example, the Nixon administration hid information about Pentagon Papers alongside other scandals that the government did not want them exposed. The developments on Daniel Ellsberg created paranoia as the Watergate scandal emerged years later exposing the planned invasion on Democratic offices (Ellsberg, 2003).
b) Daniel Ellsberg released classified information about the United States government while working for RAND Corporation where he exposed Pentagon Papers to the media. Ellsberg later faced charges such as espionage but found freedom after the court proved his innocence. The case involving Ellsberg set the precedent regarding media freedom and First Amendment rights.
