The recent changes in the United Arab Emirates job market have raised concerns about its economic prospects given the influx of western expatriates because of huge salaries and benefits compared to other nations around the globe. Professionals from the West have responded by shortening their stays in the country because of dwindling economic opportunities in the UAE. Consequently, employees in the UAE work for short durations in their professional service followed by migration in search of better opportunities (Branco, 2018, p. 78). Western expatriates express fear that companies in the UAE cannot match their compensation expectations hence the current decline in foreign professionals. The long-term financial goals of western expatriates have changed with most of them opting to relocate in order to build their professional careers elsewhere.
UAE companies face challenges retaining western expatriates given the raft of challenges facing the country. The UAE government faces pressure from economic problems to address this issue thereby increasing the outflow of professional immigrants from the country (Jonasson, Lauring & Guttormsen, 2018, p. 460).
